Is Max Branning Returning To Eastenders
Let’s get one thing straight. We are all holding our breath. Is Max Branning really coming back to Walford?
That man. That suit. That terrifying, gleeful smirk. We need to talk about it.
The Great Walford Whodunnit
Jake Wood, the actor who plays Max, has been dropping hints like breadcrumbs. He definitely hasn't said "no." That is the sexiest kind of maybe.

Fans are going absolutely bananas on Twitter. Every shadow on Albert Square looks like a Branning now. I swear I saw a bin bag move last week and screamed "MAX!"
The rumor mill is in overdrive. Some say he’s dead. Some say he’s in America. I say he’s probably just lurking behind a bush in the Square Gardens.
Why He Is the Absolute Worst (And We Love Him)
Let’s be real. Max Branning is a disaster. He has the emotional maturity of a soggy chip.
He has cheated on practically everyone. He once slept with his son’s girlfriend. Yikes.
But that’s exactly why we want him back. A peaceful Albert Square is a boring Albert Square. Max brings the chaos like a tornado in a tie.
Remember when he faked his own death? Iconic. He literally hired a lookalike to get crushed by a car. That takes commitment.
The Stacey Slater Connection
This is the big one. Stacey is back in Walford. She is played by the incredible Lacey Turner.
Max and Stacey have a history. It’s messy. It’s complicated. It involves a lot of shouting in the kitchen of the Slater house.
If Max comes back, he will almost certainly run into her. Sparks will fly. Or a frying pan will. Either way, it’s must-watch TV.
Imagine the look on her face. Then imagine the look on Martin’s face. Pure soap gold.
The Lauren Factor
Don’t forget about his daughter, Lauren. She is currently in France with Louie.

But Lauren has a habit of turning up at the worst possible moment. She is the ultimate daddy-issue sponge.
If Max returns, she will sense it. She has Branning radar. It’s a sixth sense for drama.
Can you imagine a father-daughter showdown at the Vic? Get the popcorn.
The Clues Are Everywhere
Jake Wood recently posted a picture on Instagram. It was a cup of tea. With a biscuit.
But it was a specific kind of biscuit. A Hobnob. That is the official biscuit of a Walford return.
Also, the EastEnders Instagram account liked a fan comment asking for him back. That is basically a press release from the BBC.
Let’s not forget the missing body. We never saw Max die. In soap land, if you don’t see a coffin, they are just on a very long holiday.
The Ian Beale Factor
Ian Beale is also back. And Ian Beale owes Max Branning a lot of money.
Picture this: Max walks into the café. Ian drops a spoon. The whole café goes silent.
It would be like a spaghetti western, but with more gravy and tears. Ian would probably pay him in expired pies.
These two have a rivalry so deep it could fill the English Channel. It’s epic.
What Would He Even Do?
This is the fun part. Max would need a job. He is not qualified for anything except being a mechanic and causing emotional damage.

He could work at the car lot with Phil Mitchell. Can you imagine those two trying to sell a used Ford Fiesta? Pure tension.
Or he could start a new business. “Max Branning’s Questionable Life Choices & Used Cars.” I’d be a customer.
He would probably try to date someone completely inappropriate. Maybe he’d go after Suki. Or Sharon. The chaos would be beautiful.
The Perfect Christmas Return
Soap bosses love a Christmas return. It is the law. And Max Branning is the King of Christmas.
Imagine him walking through the Vic doors on Christmas Day. He is wearing a terrible Christmas jumper. He has a bottle of whiskey.
Everyone stops. The duff-duff drums start. Boom. End of episode. We are screaming at our TVs.
It would be the greatest gift since the invention of the Quality Street tin.
The Verdict
Is Max Branning returning? I don’t know for sure. Nobody does. But the potential is juicier than a Christmas turkey.
Jake Wood is a phenomenal actor. He made us hate him. He made us love him. He made us want to throw a shoe at the screen.
That is talent, people. That is magic.
So keep your eyes peeled. Watch the shadows. If you hear a zipper from a leather jacket in the distance, run.
Or grab a drink. Because Max Branning is coming. And Walford will never be the same again. Please?
