Asian Clothes Shops Stratford Road Birmingham
So, there I was, wandering around Birmingham, trying to find a decent curry spot for lunch. I'd been told about this place called Biryani King, but I was having a bit of amare navigating the streets. I mean, who knew Birmingham was such a labyrinth? Anyway, I stumbled upon Stratford Road and suddenly, it was like I'd walked into a whole new world. Gone were the familiar high street shops, and in their place, a vibrant mix of Asian clothing stores that had me doing a double-take.
Welcome to Birmingham's Little Asia
If you're not familiar with Stratford Road, let me paint you a picture. It's like someone took a piece of Asia - think India, Pakistan, Bangladesh - and plonked it down right in the heart of Birmingham. The streets are lined with shops selling everything from colourful sarees to intricate henna designs, and the air is filled with the tantalising aroma of spices from the nearby food markets.
Now, I'm not one to shy away from a bit of retail therapy, especially when it involves exploring a new culture. So, I decided to dive right in and check out some of these Asian clothes shops. And let me tell you, it was an experience.

Saree Heaven: Rangoli
My first stop was Rangoli, a saree shop that's been a Stratford Road staple for years. The moment I walked in, I was greeted by a riot of colours - think every shade of the rainbow, and then some. The owner, a lovely lady named Meena, was more than happy to show me the ropes. She explained that the different fabrics, like silk and cotton, have their own unique names in Hindi, and that each design has its own story.
I must admit, I was a bit overwhelmed at first. There were so many patterns and colours to choose from! But Meena was patient, and before I knew it, I was trying on sarees like a pro. I even managed to pick up a few phrases in Hindi, like "main saree pehentum hun" (I'm wearing a saree). Who knows, maybe I'll be fluent by the time I leave Birmingham!
From Head to Toe: Bollywood Bazaar
Feeling a bit more confident in my saree-wearing abilities, I popped next door to Bollywood Bazaar. This place is a treasure trove of Asian fashion, selling everything from traditional salwar kameez to modern fusion wear. I was like a kid in a candy store, trying on different outfits and admiring the intricate embroidery.
The best part? The shop assistants were more than happy to help me put together a whole outfit, from the clothes down to the accessories. I walked out feeling like a Bollywood star, ready for the red carpet. Okay, maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but you get the picture.

Spicing Up My Wardrobe: Masala
By this point, I was well and truly hooked on Asian fashion. So, I made my way to Masala, a shop that specialises in western-style clothes with an Asian twist. Think crop tops with traditional embroidery, or maxi dresses with a saree-inspired print. It was the perfect place to find something that blended my usual style with the newfound love for Asian fashion.
I ended up buying a beautiful top with intricate mirror work, and a pair of statement earrings that would make any Bollywood actress proud. I couldn't wait to show them off back home.
More Than Just Shopping
As I wandered back to my curry lunch, I realised that shopping on Stratford Road was about more than just finding some great new outfits. It was about experiencing a different culture, learning a bit of history, and making some new friends. And isn't that what travel is all about?
So, if you're ever in Birmingham, do yourself a favour and check out Stratford Road. You never know, you might just find your new favourite outfit, and a whole lot more.
